A delegation of Members of Parliament from the German Bundestag paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi today (19/11/2019). The delegation was led by Hon. Frank Steffel, a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in the company of fellow lawmaker, Hon. Jurn Jakob Schultze Berndt. Newly appointed Ambassador of German to Namibia, H.E. Herbert Beck accompanied the two MPs.

Hon. Katjavivi noted during the meeting that Namibia was interested in attracting investment from German in various critical fields such as improving its beef exports and boosting water management, the latter particularly in the light of the devastating drought experienced by the country. He noted that Parliament has continued to play its role in promoting Namibian interests with the formation of a parliamentary friendship group aimed at looking at issues of mutual interest not only between the two legislative bodies but the countries at large.

The Speaker was further gratified by continued German support through the Konrad Adeneaur Stiftung, that has committed to support the Namibian Parliament in strengthening its committee system, research and ICT services as the parliamentary body gears towards becoming a paperless institution.
