A parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Angola paid a courtesy visit to Namibia’s Deputy Speaker, Hon. Phillipus Katamelo who warmly welcomed the delegation whilst reflecting on the historic bonds between the people of Angola and Namibia, dating from years of the liberation struggle. He underscored that citizens of the two nations are “one people.”
During the engagement, the Deputy Speaker provided the delegation with an overview of Namibia’s constitutional governance architecture, with particular emphasis on the structure and composition of the legislative branch. he also highlighted the symbolic significance of the Constitution Room, where the meeting took place, noting that it served as the venue where Namibia’s Founding Fathers deliberated and drafted the country’s supreme law, The Constitution.
The head of the Angolan delegation Hon. Felino Job conveyed warm greetings from the Speaker of the National Assembly of Angola and introduced the members as part of the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs. He explained that their mission includes implementing an activity plan focused on engaging Angolan citizens residing in Namibia. Their visit aims to assess living conditions, interact with those in conflict with the law, and engage Angolans participating in economic activities in order to identify challenges and formulate recommendations to the Angolan government. Moreover, he praised the cordial and longstanding relations between the two parliaments and emphasized that the Angolan people value solidarity and friendship.
In closing, Hon. Katamelo reiterated the importance of peaceful coexistence among all people for the advancement of their nations and wished the delegation success in their engagements and an enjoyable stay in the Land of the Brave.
