Windhoek – Chairperson of the National Council, Hon. Lukas Sinimbo Muha, MP, has reiterated the importance of strengthening parliamentary diplomacy and bilateral cooperation between Namibia and the People’s Republic of China during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
The delegation, led by H.E. Mr. Zhu Yongxin, Vice-Chairperson of the National Committee of the CPPCC, paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson at Parliament on Tuesday.
Speaking during the engagement, Hon. Muha highlighted the longstanding friendship between Namibia and China, describing the relationship as one built on solidarity, cooperation and mutual support dating back to Namibia’s liberation struggle.
“It is with deep gratitude that I acknowledge the enduring friendship and steadfast support extended to Namibia during our liberation struggle and throughout our 36 years of independence,” said Hon. Muha.He noted that cooperation between the National Council and Chinese parliamentary institutions continues to grow through sustained engagements and exchanges.
Hon. Muha referred to previous bilateral interactions, including virtual talks with H.E. Wang Yongqing of the CPPCC in 2022 and the 2024 visit by H.E. Cai Dafeng, Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC).
According to Hon. Muha, Namibia is keen to deepen cooperation with China in areas such as technology, industrialisation, innovation and entrepreneurship.
“To address this, Namibia seeks stronger economic partnerships with China, leveraging its expertise in technology, innovation and industry,” he said.
He further noted that China’s achievements in poverty eradication and economic transformation provide valuable lessons for developing countries, including Namibia.
On international affairs, Hon. Muha called for peaceful coexistence and dialogue amid rising geopolitical tensions across the world.
“A better world requires open dialogue rather than confrontation, and partnerships rather than alliances,” he stressed.
On his part, H.E. Mr. Zhu Yongxin commended the longstanding friendship and strong bilateral relations between Namibia and China, while emphasising the importance of maintaining it and deepening cooperation between the two countries.
The CPPCC delegation is in Namibia on a three-day official visit hosted by the National Council from 26–28 May 2026.
