The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources is currently holding its Capacity Building workshop with stakeholders in Swakopmund.
The week-long workshop aims to capacitate Members of Parliament and staff with the knowledge, skills and understanding related to the policies, regulations, and legislative mandates of line ministries and institutions falling under the Committee’s portfolio.
The objective of the consultative meeting is for stakeholders to brief the Committee on their mandate, functions and duties.
This will allow members to gain a better understanding of the mandate, operations of stakeholders, including their successes and challenges and promote cooperation between the committee and the stakeholders among other objectives.
The workshop is attended by stakeholders from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform, Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism, Ministry of Industries, Mines, and Energy, Namibia Chamber of Mines, Environmental Investment Fund (EIF), Erongo Red, BIPA.
The Consultative workshop is expected to achieve improved understanding of the mandates, policies, functions and duties and various programmes /initiatives carried and operations of OMAs and stakeholders as well the challenges faced and produce a report to the National Assembly on the findings with relevant recommendations.
