Honourable Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila today received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mohammad Beigi. The meeting underscored the continued strengthening of bilateral relations and the advancement of parliamentary cooperation between Namibia and Iran.
During the engagement, Ambassador Beigi highlighted that the Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group stands ready to enhance cooperation with the Namibian Parliament, particularly through exchanges of views on issues of mutual interest and the prospect of undertaking an official visit to Namibia. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to broadening its engagement with African nations and emphasized that Namibia remains a valued partner in this pursuit.
The Ambassador also conveyed his appreciation to the Speaker of the National Assembly for Namibia’s principled and consistent support for the Palestinian cause, including its firm stance in condemning the ongoing aggression by Israel. He noted that Iran holds in high regard Namibia’s continued advocacy for justice and human rights on the international stage.
In her response, the Speaker welcomed the spirit of friendship and collaboration expressed by the Ambassador. She reaffirmed that Namibia will continue to raise issues that speak to the essence of human dignity, stressing that the nation cannot remain silent in the face of injustices that diminish the humanity of others, particularly when Namibia itself benefited from the solidarity of the international community during its struggle for self-determination. In closing, the Speaker, expressed that she is looking forward to the visit by the Iran delegation and Namibia is waiting to give them a warm welcome.
