Geneva, Switzerland, Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, led the Namibian delegation in a bilateral meeting with the Speaker of the Council of the Nation of Algeria, Hon. Azzouz Nasri on the sidelines of the 151st IPU Assembly in Geneva.
During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed the historic and fraternal ties between Namibia and Algeria, founded on their shared liberation struggles and common commitment to Africa’s unity, peace, and development. Hon. Azzouz Nasri expressed his deep appreciation for meeting the Namibian delegation, emphasizing the historical solidarity and shared values that unite the two countries. He noted that Algeria and Namibia share a common legacy of liberation and a commitment to African independence, and justice.
The Algerian Speaker highlighted Algeria’s continued readiness to assist and collaborate with Namibia and praised Namibia’s contributions to African unity and independence, referencing Namibia’s active role in regional affairs, including its support during the Battle of Tripoli.
On her part, Hon. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila reaffirmed Namibia’s enduring appreciation for Algeria’s solidarity during Namibia’s liberation struggle, emphasising the importance of enhancing parliamentary cooperation to translate historical ties into concrete developmental outcomes that benefit both nations and the African continent at large.
Both Speakers expressed their mutual aspiration to advance cooperation through strengthened parliamentary diplomacy, capacity building, and the exchange of legislative best practices.
