The Delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Namibia attended the 54th Annual Regional Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region was held in Banjul, The Gambia from 10-16 August 2025.
The conference was held under the theme, “Strengthening Democratic Governance and Resilience in Africa: Tackling Conflicts, Economic Shocks and Climate Risks”, and was officiated by His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Gambia.
The Namibian delegation was led by Honorable Lukas Muha, Chairperson of the National Council accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, Honorable Philipus Katamelo and other Members of Parliament.
On the thematic area: Education, Health and Social Protection, the Topic : The Role of Africa Parliaments in Ensuring Accessible and Affordable Healthcare in the context of Universal Health Coverage. This motion was moved by The Gambia, Seconded by Rwanda and Namibia is the Chairperson, Hon. Lukas Muha, presided over the session.
On the sidelines of the conference was the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Business and as well the Society of Clerks-at-the-Table (SoCATT) Africa Region Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was attended by Ms. Esther Kaapanda and Advocate Tousy Namiseb, Secretaries to the National Assembly and National Council of the Parliament of the Republic of Namibia.
The conference concluded with the Annual General Meeting which passed various resolutions geared towards promoting the work of the Africa Region Commonwealth Parliamentarians and harnessing cordial relations and rapport amongst the various legislative bodies of member states.
