Secretary of São Tomé and Príncipe Domingos Boa Norte said his country’s parliament is committed to deepening institutional ties with the Parliament of Namibia.
Norte made these remarks during a meeting with his Namibian counterpart, Esther Kaapanda, secretary to the National Assembly while on a weeklong visit to Namibia from 21-29 June this year.He described the reciprocal visit as a continuation of an important dialogue initiated during the previous secretary’s visit to his country a year ago.“Our presence in Namibia is more than a formal gesture. It represents a concrete step toward enhanced collaboration, mutual learning, and the modernization of both institutions,” Norte said.
Norte described Namibian parliamentary infrastructure as advanced and praised the organizational and technological excellence of the Namibian parliament.According to him, training programmes, technical exchanges, and knowledge-sharing is crucial in strengthening the two institutions’ operational capacity.
RATIFICATION NEEDED
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, called for the swift ratification of the cooperation protocol between the two legislatures during a courtesy visit to her by the delegation.
She emphasized that stronger parliamentary collaboration would help both countries address shared challenges and unlock new avenues for cooperation.
During the same meeting, Kaapanda noted that the visit marked a significant milestone in strengthening inter-parliamentary relations.
