The National Assembly, under the leadership of Speaker Prof. Peter Katjavivi, wholeheartedly supports the Biden Administration’s historic decision to remove Cuba from the U.S. Department of State’s list of states sponsoring terrorism. This landmark move signals a positive shift towards restoring diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States, fostering deeper cooperation, and setting the stage for further dialogue.
During a session on April 16, 2024, the National Assembly unanimously called for the reconsideration of Cuba’s previous designation. The decision to remove Cuba from this list acknowledges its growing role in counterterrorism efforts and represents a step toward a more peaceful and constructive global order.
Speaker Katjavivi remarked, “The removal of Cuba from the list is not just a win for Cuba and the U.S., but for the entire international community. It signals the start of a new era of collaboration, understanding, and the peaceful resolution of differences.”
As diplomatic efforts progress, the National Assembly continues to stand in strong support of Cuba’s sovereignty, as well as its advancements in education, healthcare, and human dignity. The Assembly reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the complete removal of the economic blockade and promoting peaceful global engagement.
