Non-Resident Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Namibia, H.E. Hanan Jarrar paid a courtesy call to the National Assembly today. She was welcomed by the Deputy Speaker Hon.Phillipus Katamelo.
The aim of the visit was to strengthen diplomatic engagements with the State of Palestine.
In her address, Ambassador Jarrar provided an update on the dire situation in Gaza, highlighting the devastating impact of the ongoing conflict.
“What is currently happening in Palestine is total destruction. Refugee camps are being destroyed, homes demolished, and innocent civilians are being forced to flee their homeland,” she said.
During the meeting, Ambassador Jarrar expressed her appreciation for Namibia’s unwavering solidarity and continued support for the Palestinian cause, both at the national level and across various international forums.
“We are grateful for Namibia’s unwavering support at different platforms including when Namibia took Israel to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, and at many other occasions even during the president’s State of Nation Address. We are grateful that there are people supporting us,” she said.
She said that she looks forward to future engagements with Namibia for collaborations and parliament to parliament cooperation, including the establishment of a Friendship Group with the Palestine Parliament in the future.
Deputy Speaker Katamelo reaffirmed Namibia’s principled stance in support of the Palestinian people, emphasizing the country’s historical commitment to justice, peace, and self-determination.
He reiterated that Namibia remains an advocate for a peaceful resolution to the conflict and will continue to voice its support on regional and global platforms.
“Namibia cannot be relentless if others are not safe. Our history of war relates to what Palestine is currently going through and we commit to support Palestine. Namibia believes in solidarity, we are because of solidarity,” Hon. Katamelo said
