The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) convened in Swakopmund for a week-long workshop (28 July -01 August 2025) aimed at strengthening ICT governance and digital innovation across the country.
The workshop brings together key stakeholders from government institutions, civil society, and the private sector to align strategies that will shape Namibia’s digital future. The initiative is a proactive step towards harmonizing national digital priorities and fostering collaboration across sectors to ensure coordinated and forward-looking legislation.
At the heart of the discussions is the need to craft policy and oversight frameworks that are secure, inclusive, and supportive of innovation. The committee emphasized the importance of developing a digital ecosystem that not only leverages technological advancements but also safeguards citizens’ rights and data privacy.
The workshop reflects growing recognition of the role of ICT in national development and is expected to inform future parliamentary oversight activities and legislative proposals focused on digital inclusion, cybersecurity, infrastructure development, and capacity-building. This is a critical step in Namibia’s commitment to positioning itself as a digitally empowered nation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The workshop concludes this friday.
