Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa Amadhila and Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, H.E. Zhao Weiping have reiterated the need for the two countries to collaborate more, singling out Artificial Intelligence (AI), investment and value addition as areas with potential for further cooperation. The discussion took place Monday during a courtesy visit by Chinese Ambassador to Speaker Kuugongelwa-Amadhila. The meeting aimed to reaffirm the existing bond between Namibia and China. According to Speaker Kuugongelwa-Aamadhila, Namibia could draw lessons from China, that has made tremendous economic progress over the years.
“We can learn a lot from China. It has made so much progress particularly in reducing poverty in a short period of time. We could learn from their policies and the use of technology such as AI to strengthen our capacity and not only to reap the benefits but also to mitigate risks. China can also help to add value to our natural resources for our country’s benefit,” said the Speaker.Ambassador Weiping congratulated the Speaker on her new appointment. Cementing the Speakers’ sentiments, Ambassador Weiping said, China valued it’s
friendship with Namibia and supported it’s development agenda and the need for value addition. He further noted the parliament-to-parliament cooperation between the two countries that has resulted in the donation of a parliamentary bus and
handover of refurbished conference hall by the chairperson of the standing committee of China’s National People’s Congress, Hon. Li Zhanshu in 2019.
