Chairperson of the National Council Hon. Lukas Sinimbo Muha on Thursday met with the deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade, Hon. Jenelly Matundu as well as officials from the University of Namibia and the Namibia University of Science and Technology to discuss proposals to establish a Russian Centre of Science and Culture in Namibia.
The proposed centre to be known as the Russian House in Namibia is a product of an Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agreement signed between the National Council and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in March 2023 which led to the establishment of the Russia – Namibia Parliamentary Friendship Groups.
The proposed centre aims to enhance Namibia and Russian cooperation in the areas of science, technology, innovation, higher education, research, culture, language, and people-to-people exchanges.
The meeting considered the modalities regarding the establishment of the proposed centre and unique opportunities it could hold for Namibia.
