The Namibian Civil Society Non-State Actors Network (NamNet) has paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi on Thursday.The call was to strengthen ties between Parliament and Civil Society Organisations.Leading the delegation, Ronny Dempers called for an inclusion of civil society in the work of parliament and partnering with civil society organisations to achieve the national development priorities.Dempers also commended parliament for launching e-parliament tools such as the online bill register system adding that such a tool promotes civic engagement.
Speaker Katjavivi said civil society organisations plays a crucial role in promoting democracy and good governance.The speaker encouraged for a strong collaboration between parliament and civil society organisations.“We are all driving in one direction with the same purpose of national development,” Katjavivi said. Speaker Katjavivi on Tuesday launched a Parliament mobile app, online bill registers system and an information communication technology policy framework.
NamNet was launched in May 2024 with the goal of promoting and strengthening the collective voices of Namibian civil society, facilitating meaningful engagement with the government and ensuring that Namibia’s natural resources benefit all of its citizens.Other delegates included Dr Marius Kudumo, Ms Inga Taatsu Boye from Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia and Mr Stalin Maharero from NANLO.
