The Parliament of the Republic of Namibia has been awarded the Best Exhibition Award in the Government and Public Sector Category at the 2026 Eenhana Expo, in recognition of its outstanding public engagement and exhibition. The award reflects Parliament’s continued commitment to meaningful community outreach and reinforces the importance of participating in platforms that bring democratic institutions closer to the people they serve.
The Parliament participated in the 16th Eenhana Expo, , held at the Eenhana Convention Centre from 27 July to 2 August 2026 under the theme, “Investing in the Youth, Investing in the Future- Today” from 27 July 2026 -02 August 2026.The Expo provided Parliament with an important platform to engage directly with citizens, strengthen its institutional brand, and enhance public understanding of Namibia’s parliamentary democracy. Through its participation, Parliament reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, civic education, and public confidence in the legislative process while increasing awareness of the important role played by elected representatives.
Throughout the exhibition, Parliament’s stand welcomed visitors of all ages who were eager to learn about the institution’s constitutional mandate and the workings of the legislative branch of government. Officials from Parliament interacted with members of the public by providing educational materials, answering questions, and explaining how citizens can participate in the law-making process through public consultations, petitions, and engagement with their elected representatives.
A significant number of learners and students from schools across the Ohangwena region visited the stand as part of their educational tours. Parliament officials conducted informative discussions on Namibia’s system of parliamentary democracy, explaining the composition and functions of the National Assembly and the National Council, the legislative process, and Parliament’s constitutional oversight role in ensuring accountability for public resources and government service delivery.
The Parliament stand also received several distinguished visitors, including the Governor of the Ohangwena Region, Honourable Kadiva Diana Hamutumwa; the Mayor of Eenhana, Honourable Omri-Onn Kavandje, accompanied by fellow councillors; and the Regional Police Commander, Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa. Other notable visitors included retired Ambassador Elia Kaiyamo, former Member of Parliament Honourable Anna Nghipondoka, and current Members of Parliament Honourable Frederick Shitana and Honourable Michael Mwashindange.
The 16th Eenhana Expo brought together exhibitors from government offices, ministries, agencies, public enterprises, private sector organisations, and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) from various sectors of the economy. The event attracted thousands of visitors from the Ohangwena Region, neighbouring regions, and across the border from Angola, making it one of the notable public engagement platforms in northern Namibia.
During the official opening ceremony, the keynote address was delivered by the Governor of the Ohangwena Region on behalf of the Prime Minister, Honourable Dr. Elijah Tjitunga Ngurare. In his remarks, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Government’s commitment to fostering economic growth and industrialisation by strengthening support for small and medium enterprises. He described the Eenhana Expo as a credible and strategic platform that enables local businesses to showcase their products, expand market opportunities, and contribute to Namibia’s economic development.
Parliament’s participation in the 16th Eenhana Expo reaffirmed its commitment to bringing Parliament closer to the people by promoting civic education and strengthening public understanding of the legislative branch of government and its constitutional functions. The exhibition further demonstrated Parliament’s dedication to ensuring that citizens remain informed participants in Namibia’s democratic processes.
