A delegation from Uganda’s Opposition Party, led by the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Joel B. Ssenyonyi, paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the National Assembly of Namibia, Hon. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila. The Ugandan parliamentarians are currently being hosted by Namibia’s Leader of the Official Opposition, Hon. Immanuel Nashinge, as part of an official benchmarking mission.
As part of their familiarisation programme, the delegation visited the National Assembly Chambers yesterday, where the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Phillipus Katamelo, provided a comprehensive overview of Namibia’s law-making process. He highlighted the procedural framework of Parliament, the role of committees, and the collaborative mechanisms that ensure effective legislative oversight and governance.
The visit forms part of a benchmarking initiative aimed at strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation. The delegation seeks to learn from Namibia’s legislative system, particularly the working relationship and synergy between the Government and the Opposition in ensuring effective governance.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for both sides to share parliamentary best practices, exchange ideas, and enhance institutional capacity between the legislative bodies of the two countries.
