Windhoek – Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi in the company of his Deputy, Hon. Prof. Loide Kasingo addressed the management of the institution today (02/02/2022), in a meeting meant to set the tone for the year 2022 for the institution.
The meeting was aimed at reflecting on the successes and challenges facing parliament and further created an opportunity to review the goals and objectives and how these could be achieved.
The Speaker during the meeting, noted that with Parliament having embraced the e-parliament project with the assistance of development partners, it was imperative that managers recommit themselves and take ownership of the initiative given its potential benefits to the work of the National Assembly.
He added that the activities of parliament continue to be disrupted due to the onslaught of COVID 19, therefore e-parliament would assist the legislative body in taking its activities to the people more conveniently thereby enhancing participatory democracy in line with its strategic plan.
“Managers should take ownership of this important strategic project. It’s a tool for transformation”, noted Katjavivi.
Hon. Katjavivi further implored managers to always maintain professionalism adding that the effectiveness and image of parliament rely on the good conduct and integrity of both staff members and members of parliament.
